«Ecartelé: aux 1 et 4, parti de gueules et d’argent au croissant de l’un en l’autre; aux 2 et 3, de sable à la bande vivrée d’or accostée de deux lions du même, lampassés de gueules, et posés dans le sens de la bande.  Brochant sur le tout: d'or, à trois huchets (cors de chasse) de gueules, liés et virolés d'argent, posés 2 et 1».  - Il s’agit des armoiries de la famille Diesbach Belleroche, famille des derniers seigneurs d'Achiet le Grand, et brochant sur le tout les armes des comtes de Hornes. Ces armoiries sont devenues celles de la commune vers 1985.

Historique :
    La seigneurie d'Achiet-le-Village apaprtenait au XVe siècle aux comtes de Hornes. Le 04.09.1496 Marie de Hornes (1476-1558), dame d'Achiet-le-Village épousa Philippe de Montmorency (1466-1526).
    Leur petit-fils Philippe de Montmorency-Nivelles, comte de Hornes (o Nivelle 1524, + Bruxelles1568), gentilhomme de bouche de Charles Quint, chevalier de la Toison d’Or (Anvers, 1555). Gouverneur de la Gueldre sous Charles Quint, il se distingua comme capitaine dans les batailles de Saint-Quentin (1557) et de Gravelines (1558), livrées contre les Français. Nommé amiral des Pays-Bas, il devint membre du Conseil d'État en 1561. En dépit de cette brillante carrière, le comte de Hornes se rallia à l'opposition de la noblesse (les Gueux), soulevée contre la politique de Philippe II d'Espagne et pour la défense des libertés nationales des Pays-Bas.  Soupçonné de tractations avec Guillaume Ier d'Orange (Guillaume le Taciturne) et avec les Gueux, il fut arrêté sur l'ordre du duc d'Albe, nouveau gouverneur espagnol des Pays-Bas, et, condamné pour crime de lèse-majesté. Il fut décapité en compagnie du comte d'Egmont à Bruxelles en 1568. Il avait épousé Walburge de Nuenar.

Au XVIIIe siècle la seigneurie appartenait à la famille Diesbach Belleroche.

- COX Christopher Augustus,  of  7th Bn., The Bedfordshire Regiment, British Army. He was born on 25th Dec 1889 and was married  with one son when war was declared but still volunteered in Sep 1914 when Kitchener made his appeal. He went to France in Jul 1915 and spent nearly 2 years in the trenches first on the Somme near Albert. He was wounded on the  first day of the Somme offensive. He was also at  Thiepval in Sep 1916 and back to the Bihucourt  assault in Mar 1917 where he won his VC and   sustained serious wounds to his foot which  resulted in him being sent back to England. Victoria Cross; On 13 March 1917 at Achiet-le-Grand, France during an attack by the battalion, the front wave  was checked by very heavy artillery and machine-gun fire and the whole line had to takeshelter in shell holes to avoid annihilation. Private Cox, a stretcher-bearer, went out over  fire-swept ground and, single-handed, rescued  four men. Having collected the wounded of his  own battalion he then helped to bring in the wounded of the adjoining battalion. On two  subsequent days he carried out similar work. + 28.04.1959. Fred was a single man who lived with his parents in Hill Street, Baxenden. He had previously enlisted in the East Lancashire Regiment, and was wounded in 1916. On his recovery he was transferred to the Manchester Regiment.
